Let the locals take you for a spin.

More than just a scenic tour, this half-day Queenstown experience brings together some of the region’s most iconic sights in one well-paced morning. With panoramic lake views, time in Arrowtown, a Gibbston wine tasting, and a boat cruise on Lake Wakatipu, it is a great introduction to Queenstown for first-time visitors or anyone short on time.

Itinerary

Your day begins with a central Queenstown pick up before heading out in a premium vehicle with a small group. With complimentary Wi-Fi on board and a local guide leading the way, it is an easy and comfortable start to the tour.

The first stop takes you to an elevated viewpoint above Lake Wakatipu, with wide views down the lake and across to Cecil Peak and The Remarkables. It is one of those places that immediately puts Queenstown into perspective and gives the morning a strong start.

From there, the tour continues to Arthurs Point, where you can take in views of the Edith Cavell Bridge and the Shotover River. This area is rich in gold mining history and is also home to Queenstown’s famous jet boating scene, making it one of the more character-filled stops on the route.

Next, head to Arrowtown, where you will have around 45 minutes of free time to explore. You might choose to grab a coffee, browse the small local shops, stroll along the main street, or try your hand at gold panning. It is a quieter contrast to Queenstown and adds a different side of the region to the day.

After Arrowtown, the tour continues into the Gibbston region. Along the way, there is the chance to visit the site of the world’s first commercial bungy jump, where you can watch the action from above or take the leap yourself at an additional cost. This part of the region is also known for its vineyards and film locations, making it a memorable stop even for those staying firmly on the viewing platform.

The tour then visits a local Gibbston cellar door, where you can enjoy a guided wine tasting with a shared cheeseboard in a vineyard setting. Non-alcoholic alternatives are available for anyone under 18 or those who prefer not to drink, making this stop easy to enjoy for a wider range of guests.

To finish, transfer from land to lake for a 30-minute scenic boat cruise on Lake Wakatipu, travelling back towards central Queenstown. It is a relaxed and fitting end to the morning, giving you a different perspective on the basin before arriving back in town. If the boat cruise is cancelled due to weather, the tour returns by road and includes complimentary entry to Time Tripper instead.

Your tour ends back in the heart of Queenstown, making it easy to continue with the rest of your day. With a mix of scenic viewpoints, local stories, wine tasting, and time on the water, this half-day experience offers a well-rounded introduction to some of Queenstown’s best-known highlights.

Short on time? This is a good way to experience Queenstown in a crunch. Our guide was fantastic. She takes pride in showing her gorgeous town. This is a variety of experiences, not just on a coach. It includes a boat ride and highlights of the lakeside residences and visit to a winery in Gibbston Valley. Wine tasting is also part of this experience. A must do when in Queenstown.

"Remarkable" Experience. This was my family's favourite tour while in Queenstown. Our guide Lily was absolutely brilliant. She was so much fun, great conversationist and so knowledgeable about literally everything. She even knew what the seiche was when I asked about it and explained it better than Google! The sights were amazing all around. Arrowtown was a delightful little stop. We had a beautiful wine tasting at The Church winery. Our hostess, Trish, was hilarious and even kept my 6 year old son entertained. The bungee bridge was great to watch and the view was stunning. And to finish it off we got to jump on the boat with Captain Neville for our ride back to town. He was a hoot and the boat ride was my son's favourite part of the day. It was an awesome experience and great memories were made. I highly recommend.

The Right Balance! It was the right amount of activities and variation for a 1/2 day tour. Our guide Anna was passionate and informative about the region. The wine/cheese tasting was delightful and the setting was lovely. Arrowtown brought another perspective. The Bungee Center and Shotover sites provided a glimpse of the love New Zealanders have for extreme sport! Scenic boat ride back was a reflective experience to settle you back in to town. Fun day!
